Go-To Skincare | The Brand You Need In Your Life

Friday, May 15, 2020

One of the best things about working at Sephora is that it's made me a more curious consumer, if you will. I'm also humble enough to say I'm nosey as hell when I come upon something new. This was probably how I came upon Go-To Skincare, which sadly, is no longer carried at Sephora but my loyalty will never die, even if it's now absent from the shelves at Sephora.

First thing to know is that I adore the brand's founder, Zoe Foster Blake. She's hilarious, Australian, and a beauty vet. As a former beauty editor, this woman knows her stuff when it comes to how good skincare should perform and function, while not sacrificing good ingredients too. There's a whole routine of products that she's developed but I've only experienced a handful. However, from that handful, I can tell you it's all legit as can be.

One of the first products I tried was the Face Hero oil. It's no secret that I love a face oil and this would be my go-to (hehe) to recommend for acne-prone, problematic, or congested skin. Per the website, Face Hero is full of 10 plant and nut oils and a bunch of antioxidants and fatty acids to help clear, calm, and hydrate all of our sweet faces. My favorite ingredients in this hero bottle? Evening Primrose oil (to smooth texture) and Buriti oil (which the website says helps soothe roughness and irritation). This oil also has Arnica extract, which is a high anti-inflammatory ingredient to soothe irritation. This bottle is so underrated, more affordable than others, and it's lasted me almost two years even after using it at night on and off.

Sheet masks are always in abundance in my bathroom because they're easy to collect and usually v inexpensive. Go-To's Transformazing sheet mask is unique because they tell you to use it before makeup application, mind blown! My favorite thing about this sheet mask is that Go-To put what I consider to be the hero ingredients of Australian skincare: kakadu plum and finger lime extract. If you see anything with these two ingredients in it, buy it immediately. This sheet mask plumps, hydrates, and leaves my skin glowing.

I knew I wanted to invest in muslin cloths to reduce waste and use something softer on my skin than a regular washcloth. I discovered Go-To's Posh Cloths during quarantine and placed an order for three so I'd have enough to rotate through between washing. They're super thin, breathable but tough cotton cloths that remove all remains of any face mask while rinsing clean afterwards! I'd recommend these muslin cloths before any others, especially to support Go-To above a retailer like Amazon.

The other products my Sephora used to sell, and by extension, I loved to sell, were the Very Useful Face Cream and the Exfoliating Swipeys. Very Useful Face Cream may seem gimmicky but this peach moisturizer is heaven in a tube. It's rich in hydration but applies like a soft cream. I'd recommend it to combo-dry skin that's prone to redness, irritation, or just wants a moisturizer to calm their skin while keeping it well hydrated. There's also a jumbo size on the Go-To website now, which is a huge plus. The Exfoliating Swipeys are a fresh take on exfoliating pads for a wicked price. All of Go-To's products are super affordable, in my opinion. Exfoliating Swipeys are gentle but effective in exfoliating, smoothing, and brightening the appearance of skin. Lactic acid is the main power player in these and backed up by Aloe Vera to calm. Ahhh.

Once I work through more of the products I already own, I plan on ordering the Properly Clean foaming cleanser, because I LOVE foam cleansers. I'm on the fence with their new oil cleanser, Fancy Face, because oil cleansers aren't my favorite to remove my makeup, but we'll see! I hope you take a chance on Go-To because I know you won't regret it
