2014 Favorites

The end of 2014 already, how did that happen? No really how did it happen? It all seems like it went by so fast. I have realized how busy 2014 was once I sit back and collect the months together. I moved houses, saw friends who live far away, and attended several concerts. I’m thankful for the wonderful 2014 I’ve had and will be looking forward to what 2015 brings. Thank you all for reading this blog and I hope you all stick around in the new year. For now, let’s reflect on my beauty and body care favorites from this year. 2014 was definitely the year I embraced my love of make up and everything else that goes with it.

With skin care, I tend to be the girl who sticks to what works and knows what she likes. I’m not too keen on trying new things on my skin since I’ve finally figured out what works on it. Clinique’s Skin tone Correcting Moisturizer is a little miracle in a jar for my face. It is a moisturizer and corrector all in one. I’ve been using it for over a year now and my skin looks better than ever.

In 2014 I discovered Lush when it finally opened in Charleston. One of my first purchases was the Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub, a delicious combination of limes, vodka, and sea salt to scrub away any and all impurities leaving skin feeling fresh and smooth. I love using this once every few weeks on my face, or just give it a sniff when I’m in my bathroom.

Another brand I tried out for the first time this year was Soap & Glory, a popular brand from the UK. I picked up the Sugar Crush Moisture Extreme Body Buttercream from Sephora and it is one of my absolute favorite lotion/cream products to use on my skin. Along with the theme of lime scented things, this one reminds me of a margarita and the islands in a jar. It does a brilliant job on the skin and smells wonderful.

For nails, since I do mine rather frequently, I need a good base and top coat to take care of everything. Sephora’s The System holds the top spot in terms of nail care. Their system consists of a cleanser, a base coat that helps the polish stick and stay in place and a seamless, bubble-less top coat. The top coat is my favorite one so far since it keeps my nails chip-free for at least two weeks if not longer.

On to makeup, which was pretty easy to narrow down my favorites. My absolute, favorite foundation that I swear by is Chanel Vitalumière Aqua foundation. It glides like water across the face and blends beautifully. I have to force myself sometimes to use something else on my face so I don’t use this all in one week. I will definitely be repurchasing when I run out.

From testing out many mascaras and eyeliners, my two that I would grab in a quick minute are Maybelline The Falsies mascara and my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. Mascara is something that can be found anywhere, spending more money on it doesn’t mean it will be better than a cheap one at Ulta. I love the look The Falsies gives me. I’ve used the Stila eyeliner so much that I’ve rubbed the package writing clean off. I’ve had it for almost a year and it’s versatile so the line can be thin or built up to a thickness.

With eyeshadow, which is one of my favorite make up products, I narrowed it down to one palette and one collection of shadows. The palette that made the cut is from Lorac. The Pro Palette is high up on my list with its full range of 8 mattes and 8 shimmers. These shadows are super soft, wonderfully pigmented and blend brilliantly. Along with this slick looking palette, NARS came out with a range of Multi Dimensional eye shadows that can be worn wet or dry. I always wear mine wet on the lids, I’ll just run my brush under the tap and it soaks up the pigment and gives a metallic look on the lids that I love. I’ve invested in three shades: Himalia, Dione, and Callisto. They’re all quite neutral but still look amazing when worn alone or blended with other shadows.

I’m sure I could go on about my favorites from this year but then I’d probably writing until 2016. I plan on working to expand my collection of MAC shadows and embracing the lipstick look that can help seal the ideal make up look. For now, I’ll be celebrating the end of the year with friends and looking forward to 2015. Happy New Year!
