The October Look

Thursday, October 20, 2016

I'm putting this post together with my Marshmellow Fireside candle burning and another episode of Brooklyn 99 on my iPad. The weather has cooled down about ten degrees too and I'm breaking out the plaid. Make up wise I'm keeping up the autumnal warm tones on my eyes. My love of a matte eye is still going, but for this look, I went with the more shimmery half of my new Lorac Mega Pro 3 palette. This palette is literally me if I was made up of 32 eyeshadows. For this look I kept things warm on the eyes and medium coverage on the skin.

September Favorites

Saturday, October 1, 2016

Ah, at last, September is over and I can get more excited about fall. Okay, well, just the temperature not being above 90 anymore. It's not sweater weather yet *sigh* but I'm making do with what I have, which is watching Hocus Pocus on repeat and staring at my calendar wishing it said 'December.' I also might have just gotten up to change my calendar over to October. I had a lot of downtime last month which gave me a chance to discover new things from makeup, television, and music.

Skincare Routine - September

September is literally the month of transitions in my world. But none of those transitions have to do with the fall, we just switch into Extended Summer as I call it. The one thing that has changed this month is my skincare routine, even though I wish it was the weather. *pouts* But my skin is getting better, so much that I love doing my skincare routine at night.

Autumnal Reds

Friday, September 23, 2016

I can't get too excited about autumn in Charleston when the temperature is still 80 around here. I'll just be festive on the inside and watch Hocus Pocus on repeat. Thankfully autumn makeup is more doable than me stepping out in a sweater and boots without dying of heatstroke. This fall, red is having its moment in makeup collections everywhere. At first, I was a little cautious about red eyeshadow most of all since I've never seen it on anyone before, but honestly Chanel has done it best with their new eyeshadow quad for fall. They have other pieces featuring beautiful shades of red but these eyeshadows spoke to me the most. Enough for me to finally break down and add this gem to my collection.

Nars Rigel

Monday, September 12, 2016

Besides coffee and my dogs, I really only care about one other thing and it's eyeshadow. Eyeshadow definitely makes up the biggest chunk of my collection and there's only room to grow. Some of my favorite eyeshadows come from Nars. But these aren't just any ordinary eyeshadows, no, they're even better. They're the Dual Intensity shadows that can be worn wet or dry depending on how I'm feeling that day. One top of the versatility, they're super shimmery and leave a metal-like look on the lids. Did I need to buy another one? Probably not. Did I? You bet.

Liquid Lipsticks

Friday, September 9, 2016

There must be something in the water around here because suddenly I have a thing for lipstick. If anyone knows me really well, they'll know that I never wear color on my lips. It just wasn't my thing for so long but I always lusted after my friends who were able to pull it off and wear it with ease. Like, props to my friends, I love you guys and your lipsticks.

Cracking Concealing

Saturday, August 27, 2016

True story, I didn't start wearing concealer until, like, last year. I just went along in life with primer and foundation keeping my face together. Concealer was just another area of makeup that I hadn't explored. I first purchased the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer...and I forgot about it. Mostly because I was clueless about to blend it in and make everything look smooth. So I continued on in my concealer-less world and my spots and discoloration were probably more noticeable than they are now. But at last, after all this time, I think I have it figured out. I mean, at least I have one thing figured out at twenty two years old.

I Don't Know About You...

Birthdays are my favorite thing, after Christmas of course. However, this year, I had to deal with the fact that yes, I was no longer twenty one. I moved on to the third year of being in my twenties (that doesn't sound right but you can count on your fingers like I did). Thanks to Taylor Swift, everyone felt the need to sing '22' to me at any possible moment (Taylor please don't sue me for talking about your song, I'm just a young twenty two year old). I really don't know how that's happened and I certainly don't feel twenty two, but does anyone ever really feel their age? I don't know myself and I'm still figuring it out as I go.

Made in the M.W.

So you might have been wondering where I've been for the past....well four months now. It's been pretty quiet around here and that's mostly because I was off in the mountains, cut off from all social interaction like my phone, Snapchat, and even Instagram. All I had were eight computers from like, circa 2007 with the slowest internet around. Why was I in the mountains? No, I didn't join a cult for three months. I was a counselor at a camp I used to attend back in the day (you know, when I was 8 until I was 16). Camp in a way, is like a cult, but the kind where you fall in love with waking up every morning under Old Bald, singing semi-morbid songs about a girl going down the bathtub drain, and staining your skin green from Color Tag. But it's the best way to spend your summer and the people you're with make it even better.

The Chanel Foundation I've Been Waiting For

Friday, April 22, 2016

In the world of foundations, Chanel can do no wrong with each beauty in a bottle that they come up with. The Vitalumière Aqua is my favorite of all time, with its water base that just seems to glide across my skin. It keeps things simple with light-medium coverage that stays in place and looking flawless all day and night. 22 Beige Rosé is a perfect match for me, even in the summer I just layered some Nars Laguna over it to bring everything up to one shade. I've tried the Velvet version of it as well and if I was looking for something more matte, I'd go with the Velvet. Last summer I swore by Les Beiges All-in-One Healthy Glow Fluid in No 20 that I can't seem to find online anymore. It was my go to foundation all summer for something made for the heat and long days while still giving good coverage. Hopefully this isn't the last we've seen of it but maybe this new foundation is it's replacement? Who knows but let's get cracking on this new Les Beiges addition to the family.

Victoria's Secret Body Care: Rose and Bergamot

Thursday, April 21, 2016

Victoria's Secret has been going strong since last August with their new patented body care line that's unlike anything they've ever sold. Well, they did have a line very similar to this one but that was before my time so I'm pretending like this is something completely new. They started with four scents in the beginning and I tested out Coconut Milk and Shea first, which are still available but things have  gotten even bigger with the addition of Bergamot this spring and Rose this late spring/early summer. When I unboxed these, it was like the Gods of body care were calling to me.

The On Point Eyeliners

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

I love eyeliner, really I do. I can't go without it even though I'm sure my eyes would still look fine with all the mascara I wear (I really love mascara). For over two, probably three, years I've sworn by the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner because it literally has no flaws at all. Except for maybe the packaging rubs off on the outside from excessive use...but that doesn't affect the magic on the inside. Stila has been my go-to even when I went through the Benefit They're Real eyeliner stint, I tried really hard to like that one. Recently I decided to finally try the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner after my friend who works at Sephora raved about how great it was. She was the icing on the cake of my decision to buy. Along with Kat Von D, I decided to buy a drugstore eyeliner. I know, me buying a drugstore eyeliner? Yeah calm down and listen to me talk about it instead.

Sephora Haul

Saturday, March 26, 2016

For months I've been waiting for our Sephora store to open downtown right in the middle of King St. Sephora is such a big deal to me that I was one of the first people my friends thought of when they heard themselves. If that doesn't say something about me and who I am then I don't know what does. Even after being in another Sephora just days before, I was absolutely thrilled to walk into the new one the day after it opened its doors. Along with perusing the aisles and sections, I picked up some bits that were finally at my fingertips...and then I did it again.

Hello February, it's Me

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

Let's jump right in, why don't we? It's already February, which is crazy, but it's slowly crawling by and I'm oddly fine with it. After a warm Christmas season, I'm trying to cling to the cold weather as much as I can and wear all the layers until the air becomes too thick with humidity and I want to claw my clothing off (not in public obviously).

The Change Up: Skin Edition

If there was one thing I could have told myself when I was a teenager, it would have been to stop picking at the acne that plagued my face and stuck around like an uninvited guest. As a teenager I suffered from really bad acne and no matter what I did, it just didn't go away completely. Oh the woe of being a teenager right? By some miracle once I reached 19, all of my acne had really cleared up and my skin now has the marks from acne scars and some unevenness, but that's a lot better than clumps of zits on parts of my face. Anyways, aside from talking about acne over and over, these days as a 21-year-old, I've started to really try to take better care of my skin. I'm always looking to even my skin tone and fade away the scars from years before. Last month, I decided to change up my skincare routine (if you could even call it that) and invest in some nicer things to put on my face. And I'm working on washing my face twice a day now, rather than once in the shower. Oops.
